Inspired by the film tree of life by terrance Malick, I sought to capture that spiritual element that his films embody. in the summer of 2025 I spent my time roaming the park, taking in the sun, the shade of the trees and reading from books. at times I would look up and observe the park around me.
I noticed how the light played with the trees. the twist and turns the branches would take. they felt alive, filled with personality, it seemed intentional. to me they were reaching for the sky, taking shaping as they did.
I would often go the park, just myself with my books. It never dawned on me to bring my camera to photograph the trees and scenes in the park. not until the park became a place of solace. there I found moments of true privacy, of solitude, and comfort. As a wave of emotion passed over me, I looked at the trees, and felt their presence.
they were observing me, just as they observed those that were here before me. I began to think of a scene in the film tree of life, where the mother tells her young son, "You will be old, before that tree is tall". The memories I had in the park, would fade away with time. but not the trees, they are the holders of memory.
like god, they did not Judge or intercede. always there in the state of observance.
